Anyone can make  Anko <the filliings of  Dorayaki> ~  you Just need  follow these steps =)

Ingredients:

• Japanese rice (since it sticks easier when being cooked)
• Dried seaweed (nori)
• Water
• Sesame seeds  (optional)
• Filling (tuna mayo, minced meat, veggies) (optional)
• Seasoning (sugar,vinegar,salt) (optional)

Instructions:

• Follow the directions to cook japanese rice, then leave it for 20-30 minutes before turning on the rice cooker.<this will make the rice more sticky>
• After cooking, leave it for a few minutes to cool down
• Wet hands thoroughly <so that the rice won’t stick on your hands>
• Scoop some rice onto a cutting board or wax paper
• Round it up into a ball, then push your index finger to make a small hole. This is where the fillings are supposed to go
• Fold rice over so that the fillings wouldn’t be exposed (When you do this, be careful not to push too hard since it would easily become  soggy. Don’t push to lightly either or it’ll fall apart easily.=))
• Shape the edges by forming an “L” with your thumb and index finger
• Wrap the seaweed underneath your rice-ball to firm it and let it stay in shape.

Tips:

• Drain the liquid out of the fillings, since it will make the rice ball easily fall apart and soggy.
• No easily spoiled ingredients. For example: raw fish

• White,brown grain would do best for the molding part =)

The easy-to-follow instructions to make a Dorayaki=)!

Ingredients that you’ll need:

• 3 eggs (not yet boiled)
• 3 table spoons of water
• 1/2 tea spoons of baking soda
• 1 cup of flour
• 2/3 cups of sugar
• 3/4  pounds/lb (1/3o kg) of anko (sweet azuki beans)
• Veg oil (frying)

Steps:

• Break all three eggs into a bowl and whisk nicely.
• Scoop baking soda into the water and let it dissolve.
• Pour the water with the baking soda in it into the egg mixture
• Add flour gradually
• Pour a scoop of vegetable oil and spread it evenly on either a skillet or a hotplate
• Pour the mixture of eggs, water, baking soda and flour onto the skillet and make a pancake at 4 inches (10cm)diameters each.
• Turn when the side of a pancake starts to boil.
• Continue until you’ve done 8 or 10 pancakes (depending on the thickness that you want)
• Put the anko (sweet beans) between two pancakes

Tips:

• Melted chocolate, cheese are also an option for the fillings
• The ingredients can only be made into 4 to 5 Dorayakis, If you intend to make more, simply multiply the number of ingredients used.

Bento box First of all, you need to get a bento box.Now the difference from a bento box to an ordinary western lunch box is that a bento box is much smaller and has been separated into small sections so to prevent the flavor of the food to mix. Bento boxes are available to order online.<<If in case, you do not intend to purchase a bento box, than you might consider cutting out a cupcake or muffin cup for the barriers. Crackers and baby carrots are also an option.>>

Divide portions: This part is very flexible. You can choose to divide the portions to the traditional ratio of4:3:2:1 (rice: side dish: vegetable: dessert) or the simple ratio of 3:1:2 (rice: meat: vegetable)

Decorate: this step is optional. If you want it to look more homemade or heartfelt, you might consider to do this step. It’s essential that you do it with your owncreativity. You can spread sesame seeds on top of the rice, do criss-cross marks on top of the sashimi (with mayonnaise) or even cut up the sausages into tiny octopuses. ++_++

• UN- flexible ingredients, like chicken chunks might want to be packed first, and then covered by really flexible ingredients, for example carrot or white cabbage strips, to make it look better.=)

• Don’t pack similar color ingredients together.
• Sauce or snacks can be packed neatly into small containers
• Try not to mix liquid/sauce with solid food since it will end up soggy and unapetizing.

I’d been dead beat curious as well >_< ….So i did a research on various sites. This post will give you a consept of what Valentine and white days are like in Japan =)!!!!

There are two different types of chocolates on Valentine day, one is a girl-choco, which is usually store bought and given to their dads, bosses, colleagues or closer male friends just as a gesture to thank them for their help or just plainly to please them.<< Because guys who doesn’t get girl chocos on Valentine’s day will feel that something has gone seriously wrong with his social l life and workplace.=_=>>

• Don’t even get surprised when you hear a bunch of high school girls talking about giving their dads chocolates just to get a Dior bag or a blackberry. After all, Japanese girls aren’t all about wearing knee-length-skirts and  saying “HAI” all the time (as some movies may show)

The other type is called Hon-mei, which is a handmade chocolate naturally given to their crushes and boyfriends. This tradition is created because most Japanese girls think that it is not really heart-felt and touching enough if they just buy store-made-chocolates, which they pass away to almost every male that has a relationship with them.

Days before Valentine’s day, the Department and grocery stores would already start preparing for the great occasion, trying to pack their displays as mouth-watering, as kawaii with as many varieties as possible, since it has been estimated that the sales of chocolates on  Valentine’s plus white day almost coveres half of the year’s total sale itself.

On white day, anyway, is the day when girls tend to receive their paybacks (chocolates), since it is said that the guy who receives a box of chocolate from a girl must give back three times the amount  in return.

• Chocolate given on white day is preferably white, sometimes given with a package of flowers, candies or dolls.

• You may have heard that white day is, by means, white lingerie. —<In which I don’t really believe many couples do anyway, maybe just really extreme ones =>–

Geisha, otherwise called as geiko or geigi, is a traditional japanese entertainer who performs a wide variety of arts, For example musical instruments and traditional dancing. Geisha comes from 2 kanjis, Ge, meaning a person whilst Sha means doer.

Training stages:
Geishas usually start their training from a young age, living in a geisha’s house called okiya. However though, their official training wouldn’t start until when they reach the age of 16, in which they will be called a minarai.

A minarai’s work is mainly just to observe their onee-chans (sisters, elders or fullgrown geishas) as they attend parties and entertain the guests. A minarai is usually an uninvited guests but is quite welcome since they only charge 1/3 of a normal geisha. This stage of the training usually only lasts for a month before they continue to the final training, becoming a Maiko.

A maiko, who is also usually called as a dance child, a half jewel ( which indicates that they’re paid hald of a normal geisha) or as an oshaku (one who pours wine). They wear 5 different hairstyles, each hairstyle indicating each 5 levels. At this stage of training, they will also pick an onee-chan and learn from her things that aren’t normally taught in geishas ‘ schools, like how to serve tea, do traditional dances, picking a light conversation or to play shamisen. The onee-chan sometimes will also pick a kanji/symbol name for their student.

Finally, after 2 to 5 years of training as a minarai and as a maiko, there wil be a ceremony which is called erikae ( the turning of a collar ) And will then be charged full-price until they retire.

A portable toilet is, in other names, called a “gotta go briefcase”, designed by Nihon too corp for both men and women who wouldn’t stop for anything to get an edge, not even a simple toilet break.(=0=)

Already included inside the gotta go briefcase, is a small cup holder tray, a vanity mirror and a refillable soap-dispenser. The maximum weight capacity is 175 pounds (80kilos)/<although i should suggest to those who have bought that it shouldn’t be pushed above 150 pounds, just for safety reasons=)>?
